I would have thought toy buying would be the easiest part of being a mom. I mean these things are supposed to be fun and I know I loved playing with them when I was little. I even have my own grown up toys now. So when did it get so hard to pick out a teething ring?
I approached toy buying with the same research passion that I did to her formula, diapers and car seat, etc. So like most mom's I learned that toys were not just for fun anymore -- they also need to be stimulating. How on earth was I going to find something stimulating enough for a three month old? All I knew is that she liked looking at things hanging over her head. I knew from my research that bright colors and patterns were better and different textures were great.
As I stood in the toy isle I looked at all the rattles, chiming toys, hanging toys and stuffed toys. Some were expensive -- like the Baby Einstein toys. However, contrary to popular opinion, librarians are not rolling in dough. So I knew I couldn't afford to deck her out in those just yet.
My eyes kept landing on the Bright Starts toys. They were colorful, had different textures and I loved how they had a good selection of soft toys. I hated the thought of my little one banging herself in the head with something just because she couldn't control her little fist yet. Best of all these little toys delighted and stimulated my little girl.
She loves the teething dolls and teething stuffed animals and can chew on them for hours (ok maybe lots of minutes). Her face lights up when she sees her toys and I don't have one bit of worry that she is understimulated or going to bruise her little head. Plus we didn't break the bank.
In fact, our next toy purchase will hopefully be the Away We Go play station for her. I have read rave reviews of it and I know she would love it.
Anyone else found a toy brand that their baby just loved?
